Mom of the Month: March 2025

Each month, we're celebrating a member of FIT4MOM Las Cruces for her commitment to a healthy lifestyle and dedication to FIT4MOM.

This month, we're spotlighting our amazing Run Club+ coach, who is now a new Stroller Strides instructor! Meet our Mom of the Month for March: Doni Cordova

Tell us about who is in your family!

I’ve been married to my husband Eric for almost 3 years. We have a happy little 1 year old son named Julian!

Where is your hometown?

My dad was in the military so we moved a lot growing up, so I never felt like I had a hometown growing up, but he retired out of Holloman Air Force Base so our family stuck around New Mexico! I came to Las Cruces in 2008 to attend college at NMSU. Las Cruces has been “home” ever since!

How did you find FIT4MOM?

One of my friends told me about FIT4MOM while I was pregnant and encouraged me to come to a class with her. I immediately fell in love with the fun and exciting workouts, while meeting other mamas in town. I knew right away that this was the right place for me!

What is/was your career?

I am a helicopter pilot for the New Mexico Army National Guard! I am also a coach for FIT4MOM Run Club+ and have recently started instructing Stroller Strides as well!

How long have you been a member of FIT4MOM Las Cruces, and what has it done for you?

I have been a member of FIT4MOM Las Cruces for about a year and a half. My son and I have been to over 100 FIT4MOM classes and done 3 Run Club+ races together. We love it! It is one of our favorite parts of our weekly routine; going to the park, seeing friends, and learning, all while I get to work out!

What is your favorite class exercise?

Bicep curls with resistance bands 💪🏻

What is something that has surprised you about motherhood?

I knew I would lose sleep, but I never realized HOW tired I would be...forever? Especially the first year, sleep was a major challenge for our family. Coffee helps. Talking to other moms that are going through a similar phase helps a lot!

What are three of your favorite things?

Moving my body (running, F4M classes, lifting weights, hiking, dancing, etc) dark chocolate salted caramels, and coffee

What is your proudest mommy moment so far?

Watching my son take his first steps! He worked for what felt like SO long, and when he finally gained the confidence to walk on his own I felt like my mama heart would burst with pride!

What advice would you give to a new mother?

Being a mom is hard, don't do it alone! Let your family help you as much as possible, and find friends that feel like family to help get through the tough days. Also, join a FIT4MOM! Seriously, the BEST thing we did postpartum was to get into a routine, get out of the house, spend time outdoors in the fresh air, PLUS I got to move my body and talk to other grown ups? Literally priceless. So what if your baby cries, he would have cried at the house...at least this way you start the day on a productive note and set the mood right for the day!

Anything else you'd like to add?

I love being part of the FIT4MOM community!

We are so lucky to have Doni in our village. It wouldn't be the same without her and Julian!
